Festivals
The Hindu temple becomes a focal point for Hindus, especially during festival times. In Britain, some Hindu festivals are widely celebrated:
- Diwali: Known as the festival of lights, Diwali is celebrated as a new year festival for some communities, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Lights and special lamps are lit as part of the celebration.
- Holi: A joyous spring festival celebrated with bonfires, dancing, processions, and the spraying of colored water.
- Janmashtami: Marks the birthday of Krishna, one of the most beloved Hindu deities. It is celebrated with songs, dances, and special sweets in the temple. A cradle with an image of baby Krishna is often seen in homes and temples.
