When You Visit a Hindu Home
- It is best not to shake hands when entering a Hindu home unless the other person initiates.
- Instead, you might put your hands together in the namaste gesture as a greeting.
- Inside the home, you may see:
- Pictures and statues of Hindu deities.
- A corner of a room or a small room set aside as a shrine.
- At the shrine, typically the woman of the household offers worship on behalf of the family.
- If invited to look at the shrine, you should offer to remove your shoes as a sign of respect.
